The Launch of Co-Creative Capitalism

19 April 2007, Government Leaders Forum Asia organised by Microsoft Corporation in China : Dr Yunus and Bill Gates urge the Information Technology (IT) designers to develop IT devices easily affordable by the poor so they could use those for their own economic development.

"The information technology could play a vital role in changing the fate of the poor around the world dramatically. If the IT devices are developed at a price that are easily affordable by the poor, they would be important tools for eradicating poverty," Dr Yunus said.

Prof Yunus and Microsoft giant Bill Gates jointly presented a keynote paper at the forum. Referring to how mobile phones have already changed rural Bangladesh and their impact on poverty reduction, he said access of the poor to IT devices has dramatic impact on the poor.

The Grameen Bank chief also focussed on the potential of social business to tackle the unsolved problems of the world.

Prof Yunus and Bill Gates participated in a joint question and answer session where they talked about the potential of IT to eradicate poverty and the ways to address education, health, climate change and other challenges facing humankind.
In Beijing, Prof Yunus also had a meeting with the Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China to discuss the next steps in the establishment of a Grameen Trust-run micro-credit program in China.

Last year, the People's Bank of China had invited Grameen Trust to start a microcredit program in Sichuan province. Grameen Trust with its Chinese partner organization, CICETE, is going to launch a Grameen microcredit company to provide much needed financial services to the poor in Sichuan.
